Tip of the Week

Thought I'd bring back the tips so I'll give you all this week's tip today!  If you don't have time to go take your kids out fishing on a boat, just take them down to the beach for some good old surf fishing.  Make sure to bring some smaller synthetic baits as well as live.  Surf fishing provides a cost effective, fun way to fish and is also a good place to start your kid off.  Don't forget to bring your trunks and take a swim too!

I'm Back!

It has been long overdue since I last posted something for you all.  I think it is time that I start again and anew.  One thing I will say is what a wonderful fishing season it has been!  After a few years of dismal counts, we finally had a decent year.  Hopefully this will continue!  Take your kids out fishing on the weekends if you can.  The counts are still good and the fresh sea air is beneficial for their lungs.  Till next time, Happy fishing!

September Eleventh

As we sit comfortably in our homes, please take a moment to remember those who died eleven years to the date.  Think of all the families who's lives were shattered in an instant.  Think of the emergency personnel of New York City who gave their lives to save others.  Offer up a prayer to those families and those souls lost.

Get Ready to Hunt

It's nearly hunting season!  Get ready to take your kids hunting by going to your nearest outdoor shop and stock up on all your hunting needs, from guns, to licenses, to ammunition.  Bass Pro Shops is a good place, but your local gun store would work fine.  I have my own hunters safety license so I can get a hunting license.  I am going to go on my first hunting trip this season and I'm stoked.  Fishing season is coming to its climax too!  August through October is the best time in Baja and Mexico.  Knock em dead!!!

First Overnight

I went on my first overnight trip on the Shogun in late May.  There was a prospect of yellow tail and I had never caught one.  The weather was rough with eight foot seas during the fishing hours.  Early in the morning, I had the first catch of the day, but it was a bird.  The bird swallowed my hook so I had to re-rig.  The captain hooked a fish and handed it off to me.  It took about 10 minuets to bring it in and it was a 25 lbs yellow tail!!!  My first yellow tail!  It was pretty awesome!  I also brought in a ling cod just within legal limits about 2 feet long.  All in all it was a great trip and the crew and captain of the Shogun are awesome.  I recommend going to http://shogunsportfishing.com and booking a trip.  October is the best time to fish so Knock 'em dead!!
